Playground discusses suffocation and restriction in institutions as it visualizes and intensifies the feelings through the audience’s two roles as the action giver and receiver. The receiver endures the situation where the pit balls fall into the red tarp, submerging ones within the colors, and simulates suffocation while the body, bound by the red tarp, can't help one away from the situation. The action giver can do anything they want except to touch the receiver’s body. Throwing balls into the tarp like a game, hitting the tarp to create motion in the pit balls, the action givers made the piece a playground as they are dominating the situation and controlling the receiver without physical interactions, yet the receiver is enduring the unknown under restraint. The emphasis on the emotional contrast of fear and joy within the cubical space symbolizes the differing experiences, power, and influences given by one’s position within the piece or, in a larger context, within society.
